Do you thrive on Adrenaline buzz




Next time you find yourself in Quadrant 1 - think about why? In reality the only things that fall into that box are emergencies. A fire alarm, accident or unexpected significant issue.


Everything probably start life in either Quads 2 or 3. Delay or mis assignment of time will then drive this into Quad 1.


Some people like to think they perform better by having stressful deadlines, that somehow their work is superior by leaving it till the last possible moment. The constant boast of "I'm really busy and have. a huge amount on"


Think of the affect on your relationships, where everyone is Mande to feel like an interruption to you and an after thought crammed into a busy day at 02.00hrs in the morning, rather than a priority.


It also shows that you are either over committed or unable to plan, both of which are great reasons not to do business with someone.


I hope that even reading that you can see how ridiculous it is, the effect however is like a drug high, a short term buzz from the mix of chemicals we produce when under stress, including cortisol and serotonin. This is medically proven to have serious health consequences.


Another myth perpetuated by the adrenalin junkies is that they're somehow more efficient when working to deadlines - another crazy idea as the post stress consequence is to retreat to Quadrant 4 and waste time on mindless activities so that whilst yes, there is that short burst of productivity it's balanced by a similar or even longer period of total downtime.


Where do you think the best work is done? is it ;


  1. What MUST I do - reaction to emails calls and deadlines

  2. What SHOULD I do - compliance to existing process and low level tasks

  3. What COULD I do - Visionary thinking to drive evolution to success
